Slowly but surely, Amazon has become a shopping powerhouse, and if you’re anything like me, you get multiple Amazon packages delivered to your door a month. It’s difficult to beat the convenience, mostly because Amazon seems to sell just about everything you could ever think of. There’s even an AI tool that helps make shopping even easier.
Since I spend a lot of time on Amazon, it’s important to me that I’m saving as much money as I can. Amazon tends to bombard you with deals as soon as you open up the app or webpage, and oftentimes, you’ll see things like limited-time or flash deals on the homepage. It’s important to keep track of what’s actually a deal and what’s not. I like to buy a lot of physical movies, but they can’t really expect me to believe that The Fantastic Four: First Steps 4K Blu-ray was ever going to cost $50, can they? At the time of this writing, it’s discounted by 48% to bring it down to $26, also known as the normal price of a 4K Blu-ray.
There are many examples like that, and a good way to make sure you’re getting a good deal is by utilizing your wishlist. When I’m scrolling through the app in bed, I typically add things to my wishlist to keep track of things I want. I don’t like to impulse buy anything, so using the wishlist is a good way to make sure I still want something in a few days, and it’ll let me know if there’s been a price drop.
How to use your wishlists for better deals
It’s an important step if you’re not impulse buying
I have so many lists that it’s tough to keep track of them sometimes, but when a big sale comes around, like Prime Day or Black Friday, I’m always prepared. If you check your wishlist that you built on the app on your desktop, you’ll be shown some additional features that are missing from the app. The big one is that it tells you how much the price changed from when you initially added something to your list. You’ll still see the same price on the app, but it doesn’t tell you how much it dropped by. If you’re like me, you have some stuff that’s been on there for years, and that gives you a good indication of whether something’s really a sale.
Even if it’s the difference of a few cents, the wishlist page will tell you how much of a drop there’s been since you added something to your wishlist. This applies to more than just big sales, too, as older products tend to drop in price, too, and this is a good way of finding out if that happened. In the picture above, you can see that the Anyone but You Blu-ray dropped in price by 34% since I first added it to my wishlist more than a year ago.
Of course, this method doesn’t work if you just put something on your wishlist, so you’ll need to take advantage of other sites and apps. Fortunately, there are many options out there that are just a few clicks away.
Use a deals website to get the best prices
There are so many
For gaming deals for my Nintendo Switch 2, I like to check Deku Deals as that tells me if a game is at its all-time low price. There’s also a mobile app available now, but admittedly, I haven’t used it as the web page works just fine for me, as it does for many others. For Amazon specifically, you can use CamelCamelCamel, which tracks price drops and sales for you. This is an excellent tool for Prime Day.
You can always trust that these massive sales are actually massive sales, so using a third-party tool is often necessary to make sure you’re actually saving some cash. Fortunately, these services are free of charge, so you don’t have to worry about bypassing a paywall or anything of the sort.
