MG4 2025 EV Debuts With Semi-Solid Battery, 334-Mile Range, And $8,700 Starting Price

The MG4 2025 was officially unveiled at the Chengdu Auto Show, presenting a new generation of the hatchback that continues to stand out as one of the most affordable electric vehicles (EVs) available in China. Offered in five configurations, the MG4 combines updated design, new battery technology, and an aggressively low price point.

The most striking feature is its pricing. The entry-level model launches in China at approximately $8,700 USD, while the version equipped with a semi–solid-state battery, branded Anxin, starts at around $14,200 USD. Large-scale deliveries are expected in the coming months. In international markets such as Portugal, the MG4 is expected to cost about $32,600 USD, positioning it against rivals like the BYD Dolphin.

A major innovation comes from the adoption of semi–solid-state batteries, supplied by Suzhou QingTao Power Technology. Early estimates suggest a driving range of about 334 miles with an energy density of 180 Wh/kg. While this is notable for a budget-friendly EV, it falls short of the premium Nio ET7, which already offers a 150 kWh semi-solid battery, 261 Wh/kg density, and a range exceeding 621 miles.

For buyers who prefer a more traditional setup, the MG4 also offers lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, providing up to 271 miles of range. Both battery types support fast charging, enabling a charge from 30% to 80% in roughly 20 minutes, which is convenient for daily commutes and long trips.

In terms of size, the MG4 measures 14.4 feet in length, 6 feet in width, and 4.9 feet in height, with a 108-inch wheelbase. It is powered by a 161-horsepower (120 kW) motor and can be equipped with either 16-inch or 17-inch wheels, depending on the version. The vehicle’s top speed is capped at 99 mph, balancing efficiency with everyday usability.

According to CarNewsChina, the MG4 is equipped with infotainment displays of 10.25, 12.8, or 15.6 inches, depending on the trim level. The system is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor, ensuring smooth performance for navigation, entertainment, and connectivity. A notable addition is the integration with Oppo’s automotive ecosystem, which enhances smart connectivity features for drivers and passengers alike.

The MG4 2025 strengthens its reputation as a budget-friendly electric hatchback that blends affordability, modern features, and advanced battery technology. While not revolutionary in range, it remains one of the most compelling EV options for cost-conscious buyers.
