WhatsApp Tests Multi-Account Support On iPhone

WhatsApp has begun testing multi-account support on the iPhone, making the feature available to users participating in the app’s beta program. This development appears in a fully functional form, suggesting that an official release could happen soon. Until now, iPhone users who needed to operate multiple WhatsApp accounts often relied on WhatsApp Business or workarounds; the new feature removes this requirement by integrating account switching directly into the main app.

The feature is accessible through the app’s settings. Beta users can open the settings menu and find a new “accounts list” option. From there, they can add a second account to the same installation of WhatsApp. According to WABetaInfo, the platform currently supports up to two accounts per device.

Users may attach an existing account associated with another smartphone or create a new account tied to a phone number not yet registered on WhatsApp. The app also supports adding a secondary “companion account” via QR Code. In these cases, the primary profile remains linked to its original device, while the iPhone treats it as a secondary account. This follows WhatsApp’s broader move toward multi-device functionality.

Each account maintains separate notifications, chat histories, media, and backup settings. This separation allows users to set distinct notification tones for each account, helping prevent confusion when messages or calls arrive. The notification system will also display the account name alongside each message, improving clarity when identifying message origins.

Account switching is designed to be straightforward. Users can double-tap the settings icon or manually select the desired account from the list. The interface ensures a smooth transition between profiles without disrupting conversations or app activity.

Although the feature is currently limited to beta testers, expectations indicate that a wider rollout is likely soon, especially given its stable implementation in testing. This update differs from the recently introduced username feature and reflects WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to offer greater flexibility, personalization, and usability for its global audience.
